Klimabonus : Charging infrastructure for electric vehicles

Are you planning to implement charging infrastructure in your projects? From 1 January 2023, certain changes to the regulations relating to obtaining Klimabonus aid for the installation of a charging station will come into force. Here is an overview of the adaptations*. The subsidies of the Klimabonus state aid program will be extended from January 2023 until December 31, 2024:

• up to €750 for the installation of a simple charging station
• up to €1,200 for the installation of a smart private charging station (1-3 slots)
• up to €1,650 for the installation of a private charging station in residence (≥ 4 places).

From 2023, the purchase of a semi-mobile charging station also entitles you to state aid of up to €750 for a simple charging station and up to €1,200 for a compatible smart charging station, with the OCPP 1.6 protocol, a system that allows more efficient management of the infrastructure as a whole. Semi-mobile charging stations allow the user to charge his electric car from a power socket in complete safety, even if he does not charge his car from the station at home. In such a system, certain elements are removable to act as a mobile charger. The non-removable elements of the terminal must nevertheless allow connection to the smart meter relay according to the terms of the connection conditions of the network managers. This connection must, as for any other terminal, be made in good and due form by a qualified electrician.

Leasing is now also possible for charging stations, which allows the user to benefit from a reduced monthly payment thanks to state aid. Unlike the electric car, the charging station belongs to the user at the end of the contract.

Until now, only individuals could apply for a subsidy for a charging station. With the modification of the Grand-Ducal regulation, this group will now be extended to certain legal persons: associations (asbl), foundations or non-profit civil societies, such as syndicates of co-owners, will be able to benefit from aid for the installation of one or more charging stations.

If an owner has several locations in the same building, he can combine the requests for aid. A request for aid per housing unit or per commercial premises can then be submitted. If the premises are used for professional purposes, an application for financial aid for each second additional location can be submitted (up to a maximum of 15 charging stations). If it is a collective car park, a request for additional aid may be submitted for one space out of two (up to a maximum of 25 charging stations) by the co-ownership. In this case, the building manager can submit the request.

In apartment buildings, it is possible to request part of the aid for preparatory work (e.g. pre-tubing / pre-wiring or load management) up to €450 even before the installation of the charging station. But this benefit is then deducted from the aid granted for the charging station.
